Activities

Lecture Classes

Participants will learn the development of contemporary architecture and art through observing art pieces and joining workshops. Some of the course materials are art and culture appreciation, and exploring art and aesthetics through using different kinds of materials during the workshop. Lecture classes will be conducted by lecturers from the faculty of architecture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and Indonesian Art Institute (ISI). The lecturers will provide the materials and tools needed for the workshops.

Architecture Tours

Participants will also visit selected architecture/buildings which has a strong representation of an astounding history, concept, and aesthetic. During the visit, the architect or the artist of the building will explain thoroughly about the concept and design process, which will enrich the participant’s knowledge. Participants will also be encouraged to gather as many information by taking pictures or make sketches.

Excursion (Field Visits)

To visit various architecture and cultural objects which adds knowledge about Yogyakarta and the summer course program. For example, there will be a visit to Kotagede and Cemeti. Visits in Kotagede market will expose the participants to see the diversity of goods sold and the variety of aesthetics that the culture produce. A visit to Cemeti will expand participant’s knowledge about the development of contemporary art in Yogyakarta. The same experience and atmosphere is expected from the visit to Borobudur, OHD Museum, Ramayana Ballet performances etc.

Art Workshop

Summer course participants will attend workshops that have developed some contemporary arts in Yogyakarta, such as pop up art, tindes art, photograms, scenography, anamorphic and photographic collages. It is expected that the participants will have new experience by having art activities and understand new methods/alternative in art expression.

Studio Activity

At the end of course, participants will have a task (studio project) to solve a design problem, which could be related to the needs of the art world. Knowledge and experience from activities during previous day are expected to be an inspiration, to create innovative ideas and concepts in designing. The studio work will be presented in an open exhibition involving students, faculty, professional artists and architects to be examined and rated.
